Who are we?

Maracanazo 2014 stands for a group of friends that is totally against the realization of FIFA World CUP and the Olympic Games in Brazil, a country that faces severe problems in key areas such as health, education and infrastructure.

We are against those events because the public money that is going to be spent on them should have already been converted into improvements for the population. Although Brazil is a rich a country, it has never set priorities to become a serious nation.

Why is the blog in English?

Brazil and its elites have always given much importance to what foreigners (notably North Americans and West Europeans) think of the country. The truth is that foreigners’ opinion is more appreciated than working-class Brazilian people’s one, so Maracanazo aims to dialogue with people from all around the world in order to show what really happens in Brazil.
